Welcome back to SunnyRoomStudio and my summer series — brief, thoughtful passages for reflection and inspiration.  Though many of us are away from our computers more in June, July, and August … it’s still good to stay connected via spiritual musings that tap into something deeper within.

Perhaps this summer you will be spending time with friends or family that you haven’t seen for a while.  That can be a mixed blessing, right?  Perhaps you have grown in new directions; perhaps you don’t want to be drawn into familiar lines of communication — into patterned behavior that no longer feels right.  Yet, the “conditioned mind” (as Tolle would say) is based on history, on old habits of thinking and perceiving that seem to stick like glue.

If you have found your spiritual dimension, you will find it much easier to let go of old ways of relating.  And you will be able to step back and simply listen to the conversations of old, the endless comparisons (who is spending more time with who) or the fear-based suspicions that merely reflect the internal world of whomever is speaking.  Interestingly, when you don’t pick up the thread of habitual conversation patterns, they wither away.

So take a moment this summer whenever you must encounter personalities from your past to find your peaceful center beforehand.  And be sure to wish them well on their journey within.  Encourage those who seem “argumentative” or “needy” to read a few good books on spirituality.  Maybe they will, maybe they won’t.  But, at least, you have pointed them in the right direction.  For what they seek from you, must first be found within.

And since you now live your life on a deeper level, let their predictable antics wash over you … quickly forgotten like a rainy day.

  • You are peace.  You are consciousness.  You are more than life on the surface.  Keep your eyes on the sky.  Look up for inspiration.  It is always there.

“Your mind is an instrument, a tool. It is there to be used for a specific task, and when the task is completed, you lay it down. As it is, I would say about 80 to 90 percent of most people’s thinking is not only repetitive and useless, but because of its dysfunctional and often negative nature, much of it is also harmful. Observe your mind and you will find this to be true. It causes a serious leakage of vital energy.” ~ Eckhart Tolle
